Material guidance
Gloss vinyl is standard for lettering; matte suits interior walls. Reflective vinyl makes USDOT numbers and safety lettering visible at night. Cut vinyl is solid-color — for multi-color logos, pair lettering with a printed decal.
Artwork requirements
PDF, EPS, AI, PNG, or JPG up to 50 MB. Vector files print sharpest at large sizes; raster files should be 150 DPI at final print size. Full specs on the artwork guidelines page. Not sure your file works? Upload it anyway — we check every file before proofing, and design help is $45.00 flat if it needs cleanup.

Vinyl lettering: the storefront classic
Transfer decals are individually cut letters and shapes from solid-color vinyl, delivered pre-spaced on transfer tape. There is no background film at all — only the letters bond to the surface, which is why lettered glass, truck doors, and office walls look painted rather than stickered. One squeegee pass, peel the tape, done: the spacing is locked in at our plotter, not freehanded on a ladder.
USDOT numbers, hours, and names — the jobs this page exists for
The three most-ordered lettering jobs are business hours on glass, company names with USDOT numbers on truck doors, and wall lettering for offices. All three are text-only jobs: you don't even need an artwork file. Order the size, check design help or note your wording and font preference, and your proof shows the exact layout. FMCSA requires door markings legible from 50 feet — 2″ letters clear it, and our 12″ × 36″ preset carries a full name-plus-number block.
Sizing lettering so it actually reads
Legibility math is simple: text reads from about 10 feet per inch of letter height. Door lettering at 2″ reads from 20 feet; storefront hours at 1″ read from 10 feet — right for someone at the door; a wall statement at 6″ reads across any lobby. Size the overall block in the calculator, tell us the wording, and the proof shows real proportions before anything is cut.
The jobs that keep this plotter busy
Storefront hours and door logos, truck-door name-and-USDOT blocks, suite numbers and office-door titles, boat registration numbers, and wall statements for offices and gyms. All are text-first jobs where crisp edges and locked spacing matter more than full-color printing. If your job mixes lettering with a printed logo, order both — we routinely pair a printed die-cut logo with cut-vinyl text.

Transfer Decals & Vinyl Lettering — common questions
How is vinyl lettering different from a printed decal?
Lettering is cut from solid colored vinyl with no background film at all — only the letters stick to the surface. A printed decal is ink on a film panel. Lettering looks cleaner on glass; printing handles gradients and photos.
How do I order — do I type my text somewhere?
Set the overall size of the text block in the calculator, then put your wording, font preference, and color in the design-help notes or your artwork file. Your proof shows the exact layout and spacing before we cut.
What colors are available?
Standard cut-vinyl colors: white, black, and the common sign colors (reds, blues, greens, yellows, silver, gold). List your preference and we confirm the closest match on your proof.
Is it hard to apply pre-spaced lettering?
It ships as one piece on transfer tape, so the spacing is locked in. Follow the hinge method in our application instructions — most storefront lettering goes up in 15 minutes.
What fonts can you cut?
Almost any — but very thin scripts below about 1″ tall get fragile to weed and apply. Tell us the font or pick "match my logo," and we flag anything that needs to be bumped up a size on your proof.
Can you match my brand color in cut vinyl?
Cut vinyl comes in standard sign colors rather than mixed inks. Send your brand color values and we confirm the closest stock match on the proof — or switch the job to printed vinyl for an exact match.
